Other Sheep

John 10:16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

As a pastor of a local church I have a growing concern for the a fading desire among everyday believers and church goers' of reaching the lost and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Do we realize what we have been given?

I want my church to ask questions to themselves on a consistent basis like - "Am I doing everything I can to share the good news today? Do the people at my workplace even know I'm a follower of Jesus Christ?"

While my ministry has a focus on discipleship and the teaching of the Gospel I don't want people to forget why I teach the Gospel. Its for "the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry..." Eph 4. This means we're equipping our people with the Gospel so they'll be able to equip others to do the same.

It's really easy to forget about those in need. Life is busy and overwhelming if you let it. Sometimes, not on purpose, we carelessly overlook those in need by being so consumed and overwhelmed with our own needs. We need to remember what we've all been called to do and focus on that. We need to develop the attitude of helping hurting people.

What I mean by "those in need" is someone, or anyone, who is searching for God. This means rich or poor, tall or short, fat or skinny, etc. These people, when you see them, have a certain tone and look about them that is undeniable. A look that says help me. Are we looking for these folks? Often times, I find that these who are in greatest need are those that seem they're doing best.

Are we paying attention to those "un-churched" people in our daily lives today that are screaming out for help? Have you passed on an opportunity lately to share the good news of Jesus Christ and His finished work?

The answer is - yes, we all have. I don't claim to be "the evangelist" of Anderson County myself either. There are many folk out there who can do a much better job than me at sharing faith and being a witness of the Lord and His grace. But that is no excuse!

And, that doesn't exempt me or you from the responsibility we have from the Lord to "GO therefore and make disciples of all nations.."

I challenge you to pray and ask God for the opportunities to share the good news. Ask Him to help you realize when they're standing right in front of you. You very well could be the one sent to them...
